After attending the 2013 Pet Boarding & Daycare Expo in Baltimore last month, I decided to accept some recommendations made by the industry experts who taught various lectures over 4 days. One of those changes is the implementation of a daily Naptime for ALL GUESTS, whether daycare or boarding. This Naptime period, from 12-2pm daily, is necessary, they said, to allow Guests to recharge their batteries from morning activities and prepare for afternoon group play. They also claimed that this would improve attitudes and reduce skirmishes or conflicts.
It has been 3 weeks since we added the 2-hour Naptime on a trial basis to our daily routine. I am pleased to report that my employees have noticed major improvements in the Dogs' attitudes, especially late in the afternoon when exhaustion often made them less tolerant of other Dogs. As a result, we will make this Naptime a permanent part of our daily routine since safety is always our primary concern.
